The 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship is set to welcome the best female lacrosse players from June 29 to July 9 at Maryland’s Towson University.

In 100 days, the tournament will return to the United States for the first time since 2005, where the top-ranked US team will be seeking victory on home soil.

USA Lacrosse will serve as host of the championship for the third time, with past editions having been held in Philadelphia in 1986 and Annapolis in 2005.

"We’re incredibly excited to welcome the world’s best lacrosse players to the United States and to serve as the host country for the world championship," USA Lacrosse President Marc Riccio said.

"This event brings the international lacrosse community together - players, coaches, officials and fans - to both compete and celebrate the game we all love.

"It’s going to be a tremendous experience for everyone."

The competition was originally scheduled for July 2021 but had to be postponed by one year as a result of the unstable COVID-19 situation.

Additionally, the women’s championship will kick off a series of three major international lacrosse events in 2022, including the men's lacrosse event, the World Games and the men’s under 21 championship.

"The women’s championship in Maryland will be the perfect kick-off to an exciting three months of major global lacrosse events," said Jim Scherr, World Lacrosse chief executive.

"With just 100 days to go following a year’s delay due to the pandemic, anticipation is rapidly building around the world, and we very much look forward to being at Towson University to celebrate the best in our sport."

World Lacrosse has celebrated the 100-day countdown through an Instagram takeover, where athletes were able to share content and answer questions in the stories.

Among the 30 nations will be five newcomers, which includes Argentina, Jamaica, Norway, Puerto Rico and Uganda.

Canada, England, Australia, Scotland, Israel, Wales, New Zealand, Japan and the Czech Republic will also be competing as well as Austria, China, Colombia, Germany, Haudenosaunee, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Despite being hosted by USA Lacrosse, Towson University and Goucher College, the championship will also receive support from the Maryland Sports Commission and Visit Baltimore, along with Gait Lacrosse, Game On, MedStar Health and STX.
