Nichita defeated Poland's Jowita Wrzesień 4-1 in a close women's under-59 kilograms final that the Moldovan took control of in the latter stages.

It is the second time that the 23-year-old has conquered the continental stage following victory in Rome in 2020.

Nichita also beat Germany's Elena Brugger, Solomiia Vynnyk of Ukraine and Italian Morena De Vita en route to victory.

Brugger claimed a bronze medal.

Rîngaci secured her second European gold medal to compliment her World Championship triumph in 2021 after dispatching France's Pauline Lecarpentier 10-0 in the Hungarian capital.

Poland's Natalia Strzalka and Alla Belinska of Ukraine won bronze prior to the under-68kg decider.

Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Yasemin Adar of Turkey took a thrilling 3-1 win against Epp Mäe of Estonia in the under-76kg.

Mäe ended the first round 1-0 up but Adar pulled a point back with a minute remaining before scoring two points from a clinical takedown with eight seconds left on the clock.

Italy's Enrica Rinaldi and home athlete Bernadett Nagy won bronze medals.

In the under-55kg gold-medal match, it was Andreea Ana who prevailed.

The Romanian remarkably beat Ukraine's Oleksandra Khomenets 7-5 to finally claim European gold.

The 21-year-old had to settle for bronze at Warsaw 2021 and Bucharest 2019.
