Colombian cyclist Daniel Felipe Martínez came out on top in the fourth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country in northern Spain.

Martínez of Ineos Grenadiers finished the 185.6 kilometres route linking Vitoria-Gasteiz and Ingeteam Parke Zamudio in 4hrs 15min 23sec ahead of Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s French rider Julian Alaphilippe.

Italy's Diego Ulissi of UAE Team Emirates took third while Slovenia's Primož Roglič of Team Jumbo–Visma finished fourth.

Spain's Pello Bilbao of Bahrain Victorious impressed the home crowd with an uphill sprint yesterday, but failed to secure victory and ended today's race in fifth.

The general classification maintains the gap between the favourites with Roglič leading the standings, followed by Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl’s Belgian rider Remco Evenepoel five seconds behind.

Martínez rises to third place after the goal bonus and Bilbao fell down to sixth after today's race.

Russian Aleksandr Vlasov of Bora-Hansgrohe, competing as a neutral, is in fourth place overall while Britain's Adam Yates of Ineos Grenadiers sits in fifth.

The race is scheduled to continue tomorrow with a tough 163.76km stage from Ingeteam Parke Zamudio to Mallabia, which is set to feature five mountain passes.
