Azerbaijan's capital Baku is due to stage the penultimate event of this year's Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series, with Olympic bronze medallists Italy making their return to competition.

Martina Centofanti, Agnese Duranti, Alessia Maurelli, Daniela Mogurean and Martina Santandrea were all part of the team which placed third at Tokyo 2020, and are set to be joined by Laura Paris at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku.

Italy are also the reigning world champions in the three ribbons and two balls, and are one of 14 nations who have entered the group competitions.

The five hoops group qualifications are scheduled for tomorrow and the three ribbons and two balls for Saturday (April 23), with both finals due to be held on the final day of competition on Sunday (April 24).

The entry list for Baku represents the most gymnasts of any World Cup so for this year, with more than 120 athletes from 31 nations set to take part.

Uzbekistan's Takhmina Ikromova won the individual hoop and clubs events at the last World Cup stop in Tashkent, with Ekaterina Vedeneeva of Slovenia clinching ribbon gold.

They are among the stars bidding for further success in Baku, alongside Bulgaria's Boryana Kaleyn - winner of the ribbon, ball, hoop and all-around individual titles in Sofia earlier this month - Italy's Sofia Raffaeli, who claimed four silver medals in Sofia, and Daria Atamanov of Israel, who won two gold and three silver medals at the opening World Cup of the year in Athens.

Individual hoop and ball qualifications are due to be held tomorrow, followed by clubs and ribbons qualifiers on Saturday.

The finals in all four disciplines are scheduled for Sunday.

Pesaro in Italy is set to hold the final Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup event of the year from June 3 to 5.
