Poland’s Michal Bryl and Bartosz Losiak booked their place in the men’s semi-finals on a packed day of action at the World Volleyball Beach Pro Tour Challenge event in Doha.

The pairing produced impressive performances in the opening knockout rounds of the competition, following the conclusion of the pool phase.

Bryl and Losiak earned a 21-17, 21-17 win over The Netherlands’ Leon Luini and Ruben Penninga in the last 16.

A 21-15, 21-19 triumph over Austria’s Robin Seidl and Philipp Waller saw the Polish team book their place in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

The second seeds became the team to beat, after tournament favourites Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan of Qatar were beaten 21-14, 21-17 by Chile’s Marco and Esteban Grimalt in the last 16.

The Chilean team were unable to reach the semi-finals, with the duo losing 21-14, 21-18 to Italy’s Paolo Nicolai and Samuele Cottafava.

Nicolai and Cottafava will face The Netherlands’ Yorick de Groot and Stefan Boermans in the semi-finals, after they overcame Australia’s Christopher McHugh and Paul Burnett 21-17, 22-20.

Austria’s Martin Ermacora and Moritz Pristauz were 21-15, 21-19 winners against Germany’s Clemens Wickler and Nils Ehlers.

The result set up a semi-final against Bryl and Losiak.

Women’s top seeds Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon suffered defeat at the quarter-final stage of the competition.

The Dutch duo were beaten 17-21, 21-16, 15-13 by Switzerland’s Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner.

The third seeds will now face Chantal Laboureur and Sarah Schulz, who triumphed 21-17, 21-19 in an all-German clash with Cinja Tillmann and Svenja Müller.

Barbara and Carol of Brazil secured a semi-final place by beating Canada’s Megan and Nicole McNamara 21-17, 21-16.

Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho Del Solar overcame Switzerland’s Joana Heidrich plus Anouk Vergé-Dépre 21-14, 21-19 to complete the semi-final line-up.
