Iran overcame England to book their place in the semi-finals of the International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football (IFCPF) Men’s World Cup in Salou.

Both teams headed into the quarter-final match with unbeaten records, with England having topped Group A with two wins and one draw, while Iran were second in Group C after one win and a draw.

England made the perfect start to the match with Sam Dewhirst scoring after just 14 seconds.

Mehdi Bakhshi equalised at the end of the first half for Iran, before a brace from Ehsan Masoumzadeh sealed a 3-1 victory.

Iran will now face Brazil in the last four, with the South Americans having overcome fierce rivals Argentina.

Own goals from Pablo Molina and Hernando Romussi in the seventh and eighth minutes saw Argentina fall 2-0 down at the Futbol Salou Field 6.

Cesar Augosto Batista de Aguiar sealed Brazil’s place in the semi-finals, with his 15th-minute effort earning a 3-0 victory.

Ukraine maintained their 100 per cent record at the tournament by overcoming Ireland 5-1 in the quarter-finals.

A goalless first half was followed by goals from Serhii Bedenok, Ivan Doneko, Ivan Shkvarlo and a brace from Oleh Len to give Ukraine a 5-0 lead.

An injury-time effort from Dillon Sheridan proved a consolation for Ireland.

Ukraine, who were supported by the IFCPF to attend the event as Russia’s invasion continues, will face the United States in the semi-finals.

A hat-trick from Jonah Meyer-Crothers gave the US a 3-0 win over The Netherlands in their quarter-final tie.
