Several Egyptian cadets have impressed on the opening day of the African Wrestling Championships after securing numerous golds in the women’s and Greco-Roman events at El Jadida in Morocco.

Gharam Ehab Gharib Abdelaal produced a skilled performance against Tunisia’s Fatma Dridi to claim gold in the women’s 40 kilograms class while compatriot Malak Ismail Ahmed Ibrahim Noureldin stunned Maroua Ben Asskri, also of Tunisia, in the women’s 46kg class.

Sama Walid Ahmed Mahmoud secured another title for Egypt in the women’s 49kg while Manar Said Mohamed Mohamed Elmasry overcame the competition in the women's 53kg group.

Maram Mohamed Ibrahim Aly and Mouda Badawi Hamed Ahmed Hamdoun made it six golds in the women’s divisions after coming out on top in the women’s 61kg and 65kg categories respectively.

Saida Cheridi of Tunisia also claimed the women’s 57kg gold medal.

Egypt saw more success in the Greco-Roman discipline thanks to Omar Mohamed Hussin Abdelfatah Ibrahim, Omar Mohamed Amin Mahmoud Mourad and Mohamed Essam Fathy Elsayed securing the 48kg, 60kg and 65kg titles respectively.

Seef Sameh Emad Ashmawy Abdalaziz and Fares Amir Shokry Elamar also walked away with golds for Egypt in the 80kg and 92kg categories.

Omar Ramadan Gomaa Ahmed Elkeliny completed the list of Egyptian gold medallists with the 110kg title.

Moroccan trio Akram Darouachi, Ben Hachem Tarik and Rayanne Essaidi were triumphant in the 45kg, 51kg and 71kg divisions for the host nation.

Mohamed Louai Nemri was victorious for Tunisia in the 55kg group.

The African Wrestling Championships is due to continue tomorrow.
