British boxers shone on the fourth and final day of preliminaries at the European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships in Armenia’s capital Yerevan, with six reaching the quarter-finals.

Harris Akbar, Lewis Williams, Delicious Orie, Ioan and Garan Croft and Reese Lynch will all box tomorrow for the chance to guarantee a medal at this European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) event.

But England’s Joe Tyers could not find a way past the impressive home boxer Hovhannes Bachkov, the world bronze medallist, in his light-welterweight bout.

Scottish world bronze medallist Lynch earned the team’s first win of day four on a unanimous verdict over Turkey’s Adem Avci and will now face France’s Lounes Hamraoui in the light-welterweight quarter-final.

"I’ve boxed him (Hamraoui) before, and he beat me so hopefully I can get my revenge on him this time," Lynch told GB Boxing.

Also boxing for the first time at this year’s European Championships was Wales’ welterweight under-22 silver medallist, Ioan Croft, who also earned a unanimous verdict over the Netherlands’ Delano James and will now box Germany’s Daniel Krotter.

Orie earned a place in the last eight of the super-heavyweight class with a solid performance against Poland’s Oskar Safaryant and now faces Turkey’s Berat Acar.

First to box in the evening session was Wales’ Garan Croft, who in his second bout of the competition was seeking to follow in his twin brother’s footsteps.

He beat last year’s World Championship bronze medallist, Alban Beqiri of Albania, to earn a unanimous victory which sets up a last-eight bout with Necat Ekinci of Turkey.

Fellow light-middleweight Akbar then earned a unanimous victory over Tony Jas of the Netherlands and will next meet Salvatore Cavallaro of Italy.

Closing the day’s action with a split victory, by three to two, was Williams in a tight contest with Poland’s Piotr Bereznicki, earning a bout with Serbia’s Sadam Magomedov.

British boxers Kiaran MacDonald, Sam Hickey and Lewis Richardson will also seek a guaranteed medal in quarter-finals against Ireland’s Sean Mari, Serbia’s Almir Memic and Germany’s Kevin Schumann respectively.
