India are due to begin their title defence in the mixed team badminton event at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with group matches against Australia, Sri Lanka and neighbours Pakistan.

Australia progressed to the quarter-finals four years ago, where they were beaten by Singapore, while Sri Lanka and Pakistan did not get out of the group stage.

India and Scotland progressed from Pakistan and Sri Lanka's group at Gold Coast.

The four teams are to set to complete in Group 1 of the competition in Birmingham, where expectations will be high for India following the nation's first Thomas Cup victory earlier this year.

Malaysia, the Gold Coast 2018 silver medallists and five-time winners, are scheduled to compete in Group 4 against South Africa, Jamaica and Zambia, who were invited to the tournament following the withdrawal of Nigeria.

England, who overcame Singapore to claim bronze last time out, are due to play the same opposition in Group 2 alongside Mauritius and Barbados.

Group 3 consists of Canada, Scotland, Maldives and Uganda.

"The Commonwealth Games have a unique feel," Badminton World Federation President Poul-Erik Høyer said.

"While it features some of badminton’s traditional powers, there are also teams with a more recent badminton tradition, and thus there is a wonderful diversity of styles and approaches to the competition.

"I wish all the teams competing the best of luck."

Each fixture will be a best-of-five tie.

The mixed team event is due to start on July 29 - the day after the Opening Ceremony - with the final slated for August 2.

Badminton's singles and doubles competitions are scheduled to get underway on August 3.

Finals for each of the singles and doubles events are planned to be staged on August 8, the final day of the Commonwealth Games.
