Candy Briere-Vetillard starred for France on the first day of qualifying at the European Championships in Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini-Trampoline (DMT) in Rimini in Italy.

The 18-year-old finished top of the women’s individual event in tumbling with a score of 51.400 to defeat Greece’s Alexandra Efraimoglou and Britain’s Megan Kealy in second and third.

Efraimoglou tallied 51.200 while Kealy totalled 51.000,

Briere-Vetillard also helped compatriots Emilie Wambote, Marie Delogue and Maëlle Dumitru-Marin to the number one rank in the team tournament.

Together, they accumulated 152.300 which was better than Britain’s 151.000 and Belgium’s 147.400.

In the men’s individual tumbling event, Azerbaijan’s Mikhail Malkin impressed the most with a score of 59.600 as Britain’s Jaydon Paddock recorded 57.700 and Denmark’s Rasmus Steffensen 57.400.

The order was reversed in the team event with Denmark, Britain and Azerbaijan making up the top three.

Denmark made a commanding 170.600 while Britain was judged at 165.200 and Azerbaijan tallied 160.600.

Spain’s David Franco achieved the highest score in the men’s DMT individual competition thanks to a total of 56.800.

Diogo Cabral of Portugal and Spain’s Andres Martinez followed on 56.400 and 55.700.

Franco and Martinez also produced the goods alongside compatriots Nicolas Toribio and Carlos Del Ser in the team event.

They compiled together a performance worth 166.700.

Britain and Portugal finished in second and third with scores of 165.300 and 163.200.

Kirsty Way of Britain and Lina Sjöberg of Sweden both tallied 52.00 in the women’s DMT individual event as Spain’s Melania Rodriguez made 51.400.

The team event saw Britain finish top again with 153.300 while Portugal, Spain and Germany followed on 145.900, 142.300 and 138.900.

The first gold medals of the European Championships were won by Britain in the boy’s and girl’s junior team trampoline events.

The competition is due to continue tomorrow.
