South Africa's Sun City is preparing to host the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships, which are due get underway tomorrow.

The opening day is set to see the 47 kilograms, 52kg and 59kg categories contested, alongside a Opening Ceremony.

Both men's and women's competitions will take place, with the weight category increasing each day until the women's 84 and 84kg division, and the men's 120kg division, conclude the event on June 11. 

Many of the divisions have been historically dominated by individual powerlifters, with Russia's Sergey Fedosienko winning all nine of the 59kg events since the weight category was first introduced back in 2011.

His fellow countryman Sergey Gladkikh has won the men's 66kg category five times, whilst Jaroslaw Olech of Poland was victorious in every previous 74kg event with the exception of 2019.
