England left Gold Coast 2018 with the Commonwealth Games gold medal for the very first time, beating the host nation 52-51 in a thrilling final, and will have a target on their backs this time around.

Australia have a point to prove, having also lost in the 2019 Netball World Cup final versus New Zealand, but will have to wait until the knockout rounds to enact revenge on either of those sides.

The Diamonds are in Group A, whereas England and New Zealand occupy Group B along with Trinidad and Tobago, Malawi, Uganda and Northern Ireland.

Trinidad and Tobago are due to play England in the tournament-opening fixture tomorrow.

Barbados, Jamaica, Wales, Scotland and South Africa join Australia in Group A, with Barbados their first opponents tomorrow.

The top two from each round-robin group will reach the semi-finals.

Since netball joined the programme as a full medal sport at Kuala Lumpur 1998, powerhouses Australia, New Zealand and England have reached the final four on every occasion.

At Birmingham 2022, the semi-finals are due to take place a week on Saturday (August 6), with the final following the next day on what is being billed by organisers as "Super Sunday".

Netball is only played by women at the Commonwealth Games and the sport is on the Victoria 2026 programme.
