Letsile Tebogo, Botswana’s world under-20 100 metres record holder, laid down another marker as he set a World Athletics U20 Championships record of 10.00 seconds in Cali, Colombia.

Tebogo, who lowered his own record to 9.94 in reaching the semi-finals at last month’s World Athletics Championships in Eugene, signalled his intentions in Colombia with his showing in the opening heats on day one of competition.

The 19-year-old is set on retaining the 100m title he won at this event in Nairobi last year and going one better than his 200m silver medal.

Eighteen-year-old Muhd Azeem Fahmi of Malaysia smashed his 10.28 personal best with a national junior record of 10.09.
