The 17-year-old scored 112.300 points overall at the Arena Birmingham as she led from the off with a high score of 28.850 in the hoop before sealing victory with 27.100 in the ribbon.

She won the title by just 0.200 over Anna Sokolova in second following a nervous wait for the judges' scores as the Cypriot was the last to compete from the 16-athlete field.

Ekimova was 0.700 points ahead going into the final discipline, the ribbon, where she posted a score of 27.100, before Sokolova, needing 27.801 to win, scored 27.600.

Australia's Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva completed the podium after finishing with a total of 111.100 points.

It is her third Commonwealth Games bronze after third-placed team and ball finishes at Gold Coast 2018.

Ekimova's gold is her second medal of these Games to add to her bronze from yesterday's team all-around final.

"It's been my aim, it's been my goal, it's been my dream," Ekimova said.

"I did everything I could.

"I put my heart out on the floor.

"It was a tight one but it was incredible and a dream come true.

"It was amazing to have my mum here, my coaches and all the support behind me.

"I spoke to my coaches.

"They gave me tips and helped me concentrate.

"I put everything in, and the crowd really helped.

"I fixed my mistakes and gave even more."

England's last medal in the individual all-around was at Victoria 1994 when Debbie Southwick won bronze,

Prior to yesterday's podium finish, the last rhythmic gymnastics medal came at Delhi 2010 - a bronze in the team event.

Ekimova, who was only the fourth-best qualifier for the final, has also qualified for tomorrow's ball, hoop, and ribbon individual apparatus.

"I'm just going to start again and go again from zero," she said.
