Olympic gold medallist Henrik von Eckermann guided Sweden to their first title at this year's Herning 2022 International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Championships and sealed a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The world number one, riding King Edward, recorded no faults alongside brother Jens Fredricson, who steered Markan Cosmopolit during the second round of the team jumping event at the Stutteri Ask Stadium.

Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Indiana added four points to their tally before Peder Fredricson, who was on H&M All, leaped to the end of the competition with a drop score of 12.

It meant Sweden's overall total for the competition came to just 7.69, which was clear of The Netherlands' 19.31.

The silver medallists managed to create more than enough daylight from Britain after they snatched bronze for making 22.66.

They had pushed from sixth to third on the final day.

Ireland elevated to fourth thanks to a score of 23.15 while Germany's competition ended in disaster when Andre Thieme was eliminated after falling off DSP Chakaria.

The Germans ended the tournament in fifth on 24.76.

Nevertheless, this was still enough to secure the final Olympic qualification spot as a member of the top five.

France, who have automatically progressed as the hosts, completed the event on 26.44.

The Dutch also saw success in the Para dressage team event where they established themselves as one of the favourites at the BB Horse Arena with qualification to Paris 2024 on the line.

Attention was focused on grade I, grade II and grade IV during a day of scorching heat.

Grade IV athlete Sanne Voets led the way by recording a percentage of 78.415 with his horse Demantur RS2 N.O.P.

Demi Haerkens, who also competed in the grade IV class, jockeyed EHL Daula to finish the day on 76.024 per cent, though this has been noted as a drop score because they were the only two riders to compete for their country.

Lotte Krijnsen is set to compete in grade III and Frank Hosmar is due to participate in grade V.

The nature of the event means it is unclear who will jump to the seal a podium position in the event, but Austria did all they could by ranking first on the day with 213.755 per cent.

Pepo Puch, riding Sailor’s Blue in grade II, stood out for Austria by recording a percentage of 75.441.

Grade I athlete Julia Sciancalepore followed with 71.607 per cent after performing with Heinrich IV while grade IV competitor Bernd Brugger and Bellagio 4 made 66.707 per cent for their nation.

Denmark's Katrine Kristensen showcased her skills to steer Goerklintgaards Quater to a substantial percentage of 77.176.

She was the only rider to compete for her country today.

This was more than adequate to finish top of the grade II rankings as Puchs trailed behind.

Britain's Lee Pearson completed a round with Breezer to total 73.529 per cent.

In the grade IV standings, Voets and Haerkens' scores were enough to top the standings while the United States' Kate Shoemaker and her horse Quiana made the third highest tally of 75.415 per cent.

Grade I Paralympic champion Roxanne Trunnell of the United States notched 75.214 per cent but this was not enough to breach the top three which consisted of Latvia’s Rihards Snikus, Italy’s Sara Morganti and Ireland’s Michael Murphy.

Snikus rode King Of The Dance to a spectacular 80.393 per cent while Morganti guided Royal Delight to 77.250 per cent.

Murphy leaped to third thanks to a successful performance with Cleverboy, where they scored 76.072 per cent.

The FEI World Championships are due to continue tomorrow.
