Colapinto closed out the proceedings by earning scores of 9.33 and 7.67 to post the highest two-wave total, 17.00, and proceed into round three of the repechage.

The 24-year-old initially dropped outside of the main bracket in round two after finishing third by the smallest of margins against Germany's Dylan Groen and Olympian Sean Foerster of Canada.

Olympic silver medallist Kanoa Igarashi was once again in fine form, scoring a total of 14.10 to keep his name within contention for the men's title.

There was a shock for Manuel Selman of Chile, who was relegated from the main round following his heat against Igarashi and second-place Jhony Corzo of Mexico.

Selman could then only tally 3.53 in the repechage to depart the competition completely.

The other Olympians to reach the third round of the main bracket are Germany's Leon Glatzer, Italians Leonardo Fioravanti and Lucca Mesinas and the United States' Kolohe Andino.

Indonesia's Rio Waida bounced back strongly from his repechage relegation by recording a score of 9.00 for one ride, the second-highest single-wave score, and an overall tally of 16.00 in the first repechage round.

The 22-year-old maintained his form in the following round with 13.50 to advance.

After dropping out of the main bracket in round two, Leandro Usuna of Argentina also progressed through the repechage to ensure he did not suffer an early exit. 

The winners of the men's and women's competitions will give their national teams one extra Paris 2024 Olympic quota place which will not count against the limit of two berths per gender per National Olympic Committee.

The ISA World Surfing Games are scheduled to continue tomorrow with the start of women's competition.
