Poland and The Netherlands, the two co-hosts, have both won their matches on the opening day of the Women's World Volleyball Championship.

The two nations secured their victories at the GelreDome in Arnhem, with the Poles triumphing 3-1 against Croatia in Pool B before the Dutch swept Kenya 3-0 in Pool A.

Olivia Rozanski and Magdalena Stysiak combined for 31 points while Agnieszka Korneluk recorded seven of her team's 13 blocks.

Croatia's Lucija Mlinar joined Rozanski in netting 16 points to give her national side the best chance of victory, although it was not meant to be.

Poland took the first set 25-19 before Croatia struck back in the second, winning 25-21.

The Poles responded by triumphing 25-23 in the third set.

They closed out the victory in the fourth set thanks a dominating 25-15 win.

Later in the day, The Netherlands showed they were vastly superior to Kenya, beating their opponents 25-11, 25-17, 25-11.

The statistics showed just how dominant the Dutch were as they made 45 kills, 13 blocks, three aces and only seven errors.

In comparison, Kenya recorded 25 kills, seven blocks and 14 errors.

They also did not make an ace throughout the contest.

Six fixtures are due to be staged tomorrow, including Brazil taking on Czech Republic.
