Italy is set to face Brazil for a spot in the final while Serbia has been pitted against the United States in the last-four.

The day started with Italy beating China 3-1 in the first quarter-finals.

The Europeans bagged the first two sets 25-16, 25-22 before China pulled one back with a 25-13 win.

But that did not spark a comeback as the Italians got the fourth set 25-17 to seal the victory.

Paola Egonu top scored with 29 points for the Italians.

Meanwhile, the United States reached the last-four with a dominant 3-0 win over Turkey.

With 18 points, Alexandra Frantti helped the Americans register a 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 victory.

The next two quarter-finals were nail-biters.

In the first one, Brazil came back from being 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Japan.

Skipper Gabriela Guimaraes delivered a match-winning performance, scoring 25 points as the South Americans won 18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 27-25, 15-13.

Once again, it was captain Tijana Boškovic who stepped up for Serbia when it mattered the most.

She came up with a massive 36-point haul as Serbia edged Poland 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 16-14.

The first semi-final between Serbia and the United States is scheduled for tomorrow.
