Defeat for the US, who won bronze at the previous edition in Sydney, Australia, in 2018, was the four-time champions first ever loss in group play at the Championship.

Britain sit second in Group A on six points, winning their first game of the day 55-50 against New Zealand.

The US sit third on four points, bouncing back from their defeat at the hands of France to overcome New Zealand 50-39.

The other Group A game today saw Germany defeat Switzerland 52-43.

In Group B, holders Japan sit top on eight points after victories today against Canada 52-47 and Brazil 58-37.

Australia, who have only played three matches, are also unbeaten with six points, and today defeated hosts Denmark 55-43.

Denmark sit third in the group on four points, beating Colombia 52-44, before their loss to Australia.

In the group’s other match Canada beat Colombia 62-46.

The group phase is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
