The National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan has received a record number of scholarships through the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Solidarity programme.

A total of 32 scholarships were issued across 16 sports and these will help the country’s athletes in their preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Six scholarships were given to wrestlers, with four awarded to boxers, three to judokas, three to weightlifters, two to athletics, two to gymnasts, two to tennis players, two to shooters and one each for breaking, cycling, canoeing, swimming, table tennis, sport climbing, archery and taekwondo.  

Scholarships were also given to two team sports - men’s water polo and women’s handball.

Candidates were submitted to the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan by National Federations, with selection criteria including results and the prospects of winning medals.

The scholarship award is an increase in the number the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan received for Tokyo 2020 - 24 across 13 sports.  

At Tokyo 2020 Kazakhstan won eight medals, all bronzes - one in judo, two in weightlifting, two in boxing, one in wrestling and two in karate.
