Olympic Council of Malaysia Hall of Fame member Jahendran Subramaniam has died aged 87 ©OCM

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Hall of Fame member Jahendran Subramaniam has died aged 87.

Subramaniam was a hockey enthusiast and dedicated his life to promote the sport and the Olympic Movement in Malaysia.

For his contributions to hockey, he was conferred the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (P.J.K.) by the D.Y.M.M. Sultan Selangor, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, in 1989.

He served as the honorary treasurer of Selangor Hockey Association from 1965 to 1993, and also held the position in the Malaysia Hockey Federation (MHF) from 1987 to 1988.

After 1998, he was assistant treasurer of MHF until 2002.

Subramaniam was elected honorary assistant treasurer of the OCM for five consecutive terms from 1996 to 2007.

During the 2005 Asian Indoor Games in Bangkok, he was appointed Chef de Mission of the Malaysian contingent.

"Mr. Jahendran Subramaniam contributed significantly in keeping the financial statements of OCM in good order during his tenure as the Honorary Assistant Treasurer," Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of OCM, said.

"On behalf of the OCM, we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family."

Subramaniam was inducted into the OCM Hall of Fame in 2011 for his contributions to the Olympic Movement in the country.

A former civil servant, Subramaniam had served as the principle examiner of accounts, at the Office of the Auditor General Malaysia.

He received Excellence Service Award from the audit department in 1983.

Subramaniam was OCM’s official representative to the Council of the South East Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) from 1997 to 2001.
