Ukraine's athletes continued their fine performance at the World Shooting Para Sport Championships in Abu Dhabi, an event with Paris 2024 Paralympics qualification places on offer.

Vasyl Kovalchuk and Anastasiia Telizhenko combined to defeat Ayesha Almehairi and Saeed Alblooshi, representing host nation the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 16-8 in the R11 mixed team air rifle standing SH2 event final at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club.

That was their country's fourth gold medal at the World Championships.

The Ukrainian duo had led the way in qualifying with a score of 628.2, with Almehairi and Alblooshi notching 626.2 to progress in second.

It was Kovalchuk's second gold of the Championships after his R5 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 triumph on Monday (November 14).

"It was an interesting event," he said.

"This is the first time I participated in R11 event, and I am very happy and proud to win the gold medal.

"Big thank you to all the Ukraine coaches and all who supported us.

"Also thank you to the Ukrainian people for their support that helped us to compete in this World Championships.

"This was an important championship for the entire team."

Italy’s Livia Cecagallina and Roberto Lazzaro took the bronze medal in the R11 mixed team air rifle standing SH2, beating Ayesha Alshamsi and Abdulla Alahbabi of the UAE 16-10.

Ukraine's four gold medals mean they trail South Korea by two at the top of the medals table.

The World Championships in Abu Dhabi is set to conclude tomorrow.

A total of 31 qualifying places at Paris 2024 have been made available in the Paralympic disciplines at the event.

Shooting Para sport events at the Games are due to be held outside of Paris at the National Shooting Centre in the city of Châteauroux.
