Bianca Ribi finished first in the women's monobob event in Whistler, clocking 1min 50.89sec before compatriot Cynthia Appiah came in second 0.27sec later.

Olympic and world champion Kaillie Humphries of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 1:51.18.

The result at the Whistler Sliding Center means Ribi is leading the overall standings with 225 points.

Appiah is second on 210 while Humphries is third on 200.

The 26-year-old Ribi was in second place after the first race behind German Laura Nolte.

However, Nolte suffered a crash right before the finish, helping Robi to first place.

Melanie Hasler of Switzerland finished fourth in 1:51.28, while Germany’s Kim Kalicki completed the top-five with a timing of 1:51.68.

By contrast, a familiar face was atop the two-man podium.

With Alexander Schüller pushing, Germany's Olympic champion Francesco Friedrich claimed victory and was quickest on both runs.

Britain's Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence were second, with another Germany sled - piloted by Johannes Lochner with Erec Bruckert pushing - third.
