The St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee (SKNOC) is looking to strengthen the protection of its athletes and personnel, holding a "Safeguarding in Sport" seminar to help achieve this.

Held at the SKNOC headquarters, it was organised by the Women in Sport Commission and attended by dignitaries such as Sports Minister Samal Duggins.

This project and seminar topic complements the United Nations' affirmation on the "Right of the child to be able to participate in sport in a safe environment", says the SKNOC.

Acting SKNOC President Dennis Knight and National Sports Council chair Glenn Quinlan were among the speakers, while other SKNOC Executive Committee members were present too.

"There was tremendous credit associated with the outcomes of the group exercises in which the participants engaged in their collaborative search for responses for and solutions to perceived and actual challenges posed by safeguarding in sports," said the SKNOC.

Women in Sport Commission chair Jennifer Nero said the hosting of the seminar showed how seriously leadership took the subject, adding it would "assume increasing significance in the assessment of sport organisations' stewardship going forward".

Recommendations were given to participants to take back to their National Federations.

Lenny Lake, a former national footballer and cricketer who now serves as a FIFA training facilitator and consultant, designed and produced the session.

Lake added praise to the 29 participants for their "enthusiastic engagement".
