Norwegians filled eight of the top ten places in the race, over 20 kilometres, with Paal Golberg topping the standings in 48min 14.5sec.

Golberg’s victory over the longer distance came just a day after he finished fifth in yesterday’s men’s sprint free final.

In second place in a time of 48:15.4 was compatriot Sjur Roethe, with Martin Loewstroem Nyenget finishing in third in 48:15.6.

Didrik Toenseth was the fourth successive Norwegian to finish, holding off Sweden’s William Poromaa on the line to complete the course in 48:16.2.

Golberg holds a 35 point lead in the men’s distance World Cup standings on 381, and leads the men’s overall World Cup standings with 566 points, an advantage of 136 points.

In the women’s event Frida Karlsson of Sweden took the title, also over 20 kilometres, in 53min 51.9sec.

Karlsson, part of the Swedish team that won bronze at Beijing 2022 in the women’s 4x5 kilometres relay, triumphed by 0.6 seconds.

Tiril Udnes Weng of Norway took silver in 53:52.5, with Sweden also completing the podium through Ebba Andersson, who took bronze in 53:53.1.

In the women’s distance World Cup standings Andersson holds a narrow five-point lead over compatriot Karlsson, on a total of 394.

In the overall women’s World Cup standings Weng sits on 528 points at the top of the standings, holding a 76-point advantage over Karlsson.

The next round of the Cross-Country World Cup is due to be held from December 9 to 11 in Beitostolen.
