A delegation from the International School Sport Federation (ISF) met with the Local Organising Committee and ISF Technical Committee Presidents to discuss preparations for the Bahrain 2024 Gymnasiade.

The meeting which was held from Dec 12 to 14 saw the ISF Technical Committee Presidents visit the 14 venues that will host the 25 sports in the 2024 Gymnasiade programme.

Competition is expected to happen in athletics and Para-athletics, archery, badminton, 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, judo and Para-judo, fencing, dance sports, gymnastics, swimming and Para-swimming, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, orienteering, wrestling, handball, padel, and karate.

Scheduled to be held in October 2024, the ISF Gymnasiade will take place under the patronage of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Around 5000 school sports athletes from more than 80 countries are expected to compete in the event.

An education and cultural programme focusing on gender equality, legacy, and educational opportunities will take place after the Gymnasiade.

"Bahrain is ready to bring this event to the highest level by stressing the importance of sports in forming societies, especially school sports as the youth interact with physical activity from an early age through school's physical education," an ISF release said.

"We are looking forward to the great event assuring great venue conditions and unforgettable experiences and memories!"

Founded in 1972, the ISF aims to provide sporting and educational opportunities for as many students as possible around the world, and since 1995 it has been recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
