Beijing 2022 two-woman gold medallist Laura Nolte of Germany claimed the monobob title at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup in Winterberg.

Nolte beat Kaillie Humphries of the United States, Olympic champion in the category, for gold.

The German crossed the line in 1min 59.54sec to claim her second World Cup victory of the season.

"It was very exciting for me today," Nolte said after the win.

"In the first run I had a huge mistake.

"That really annoyed me and I thought it cost me the victory.

"I honestly didn't expect to still win.

"I missed my fans and friends and family at the track so much last year - accordingly, I was super happy to see so many here today."

World champion Humphries bagged silver in 1:59.72.

Another German in Kim Kalicki took bronze in 1:59.73.

Kalicki’s compatriot Lisa Buckwitz finished fourth while Australian Breeana Walker came in fifth.

It was not a great day for Youth Olympic champion and junior European champion Georgeta Popescu.

The Romanian finished 14th in her World Cup debut.

Despite the silver, Humphries is leading the overall rankings with 845 points.

Nolte on 810 is second and Buckwitz with 754 is third overall.
