The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) says it is considering bidding to host a future edition of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly.

The OCM’s comments come after a successful visit to the ANOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

During the visit the OCM’s general manager Fong Wan Hor was met by three representatives of ANOC - secretary general Gunilla Lindberg, its National Olympic Committee (NOC) services manager Gustavo Harada and project manager Andres Santi.

Wan Hor spoke of how the OCM wanted to further support ANOC initiatives and play host to some of its events.

He cited the fact that the OCM has not hosted the ANOC General Assembly since 2002, when it was held at the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur, and was attended by delegates from 198 NOCs.

Wan Hor also spoke of the OCM’s aim to develop its own sustainability strategies, and said that the OCM would soon join fellow NOCs in signing up to the United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework.

While in Lausanne Wan Hor also met the senior manager of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Safe Sport Unit Kristy Burrows.

The OCM said it was planning to organise an International Conference on Safe Sport this year, with the IOC’s Safe Sport Unit pledging to help support the organisation of the conference.
