In the women’s 1,500 metres, Marijke Groenewoud, a member of the Netherlands side that won bronze in the team pursuit at Beijing 2022, triumphed in 1min 56.67sec, by 1.16 seconds from Ragne Wiklund.

The Norwegian won the women’s 3,000 metres on the opening day at the Arena Lodowa but had to settle for second over the shorter distance, finishing in 1:57.83.

The podium was completed by Japan’s Miho Takagi in 1:58.02.

In the men’s 500 metres victory went to Wataru Morishige of Japan, with the Beijing 2022 bronze medallist in the discipline, claiming the win in Poland in 34.78sec.

Canada’s Laurent Dubreuil earned silver in 34.87, with the podium completed by Yuma Murakami of Japan in 35.03.

The men 5,000 metres saw Italian Davide Ghiotto, who won 10,000m bronze at Beijing 2022, triumph in 6:17.45.

Patrick Roest of the Netherlands took the silver medal in 6:18.27, with bronze going to Norway’s Sander Eitrem in 6:18.45.

Finally in the women’s team pursuit, Canada’s trio of Ivanie Blondin, Isabelle Weidemann and Valerie Maltais claimed victory in 3:00.97.

Silver went to the Netherlands in 3:01.74, with the podium completed by the United States with 3:04.01.

Four more finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow, in the men’s and women’s 1,000 metres races, and mass start events.
