The parents of Reeva Steenkamp say they believe six-time Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius should remain in jail for life, and say they have not forgiven him for the death of their daughter ten years ago.

Speaking to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Reeva’s death her parents Barry and June say they are still angry at the South African athlete, known as the Blade Runner, after he shot his girlfriend through the bathroom door, claiming that he had mistaken her for an intruder.

"I told Oscar directly that he shot my daughter deliberately, and he denied it," Barry Steenkamp told Mail Online.

"He stuck to his story that he thought it was an intruder.

"After all these years we are still waiting for him to admit he did it in anger. That is all we wanted.

"If he told me the truth, he would have been a free man by now and I would have let the law take its course over his parole.

"But I was wasting my time. He is a murderer. He should remain in jail."

Reeva’s mother June added: "Oscar has taken a lot away from us and from Reeva.

"So now, instead of getting upset I get angry.

"I am angry with him. It is a horrible thing to say, but I can’t stand him.

"I don’t think that he got enough time (in jail), and if somebody takes a life they must pay with their life in jail."

In December 2015 Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide and jailed for six years in connection with Reeva’s death.

The charge was later upgraded to murder with Pistorius’ jail sentence increased to 13 years after an unsuccessful appeal.

Pistorius won eight medals across three Paralympics including six golds, with these coming in the T44 category over 200 metres at Athens 2004, over 100m, 200m and 400m at Beijing 2008 and over 400m at London 2012.

Pistorius also won gold in the 4x100m relay T42-T46 category at London 2012.

Under South African law, offenders become eligible for parole after serving half of their sentence.
