Underdogs Shaunna Li and Abhinav Manota have shocked crowds to secure the singles titles at the Oceania Badminton Championships in Auckland.

The women's final saw New Zealander Li met top seed Tiffany Ho of Australia in a tough contest in the first match of the day at the Auckland Badminton Stadium.

She managed to fend off a comeback and pick up a 24-22, 18-21, 21-12 win after 67 minutes.

The title sees Li add to her junior singles title from last year's Championships.

"I probably got too comfortable and started rushing my shots in the first set," said Li.

"I was lucky to get it so I could reset.

"She was getting momentum.

"I was really hard to be honest.

"I just had to focus on one point at a time especially after what happened in the first set.

"I didn't want to think too far ahead.

"I think can have some ice cream tonight…Duck Island ice cream.

"At least my bank account will look a little better."

Li's compatriot Manota dispatched fellow New Zealander Edward Lau 21-12, 21-16 in the men's gold medal-match.

The pair have now secured four of the past five titles in the tournament.

"My game play worked today," said Manota.

"It's probably why I could win.

"We play each other all the time.

"It does get a little bit same-same, but we try and push each other.

"I really wanted to win, but it doesn't really change where I'm at.

"I will always fight when I play."

While New Zealanders dominated the singles finals, Australian pairs were on top in the doubles events.

Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Gronya Somerville downed compatriots Ming Chuen Lim and Sylvina Kurniawan 21-12, 21-16 in the mixed doubles decider.

Kurniawan then triumphed in the women's doubles alongside Setyana Mapasa as they beat Ho and Lee Yen Khoo 21-7, 21-9.

Choo and Rayne Wang secured the men's title with a 17-21, 21-15, 21-18 comeback against New Zealand's Chan Alan Yun Lung and Chance Cheng.
