Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) President Prince Feisal Al Hussein has launched the Jordan Olympic Academy in the country's capital Amman.

The Academy is set to serve as the educational arm of the JOC, offering accredited programmes and projects in sports management, training and Olympic education.

Prince Feisal, who is also an International Olympic Committee Executive Board member, was joined by Jordan's Minister of Youth Mohammed Salama Faris Al-Nabulsi, Ministry of Education secretary general Nawaf Al-Ajarma, JOC vice-presidents Sari Hamdan and Khaled Atiyat, National Federations' representatives and several ambassadors.

The launch of the Academy was followed by a panel discussion on "The Role of the Jordan Olympic Academy in the Sports and Society Sector", attended by Olympic karate bronze medallist Abdelrahman Al-Masatfa.

Prince Feisal met Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) President Francesco Ricci Bitti prior to the launch of the Academy.

The two officials discussed several key issues and the role of the Academy in promoting Olympism in Jordan.

The ASOIF President praised Prince Feisal for his leadership of the JOC.

"It was a pleasure to meet with my friend HRH Prince Feisal and to discuss a few important matters," Ricci Bitti said.

"Jordan has always had a long and very close relationship with the Olympic Movement, and I am sure under Prince Feisal’s leadership this will continue to develop, and the Jordan Olympic Academy is just another example that will ensure more people could experience and live the Olympic values."

Jordan won its first-ever Olympic medal with a taekwondo gold from Ahmad Abu-Ghaush at Rio 2016, and collected a silver in the same sport at Tokyo 2020 through Saleh Al-Sharabaty as well as the karate bronze through Al-Masatfa.
