Olympic judo gold medallist Distria Krasniqi has been named Kosovo Olympic Committee's sportswoman of the year for the third year in a row.

In 2022, Krasniqi won International Judo Federation (IJF) Grand Slam, Grand Prix and World Masters titles and also retained her Mediterranean Games gold medal.

She also took bronze at the European and World Championships.

Her coach Driton Kuka won the national coaching award for the seventh year running in recognition of his stewardship of Kosovo's most successful Olympic sport.

Boxer Shpetim Bajoku, super lightweight bronze medallist at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, was named sportsman of the year.

The special award for women went to world and European boxing bronze medallist Donjeta Sadiku, who this week withdrew from the International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships in New Delhi due to visa issues and restriction on use of national symbols.

The men's special award was presented to striker Vedat Muriqi who joined Mallorca in La Liga.

In 2022, Muriqi scored five goals in the UEFA Nations League for the Kosovo national side which won the award for men's team of the year.

The national handball squad won the women's team prize.

Junior European bronze medallist Dardan Cena was named future Olympic hope amongst men.

Alpine skier Kiana Kryeziu, the first woman to represent Kosovo at the Winter Olympics and finishing 49th in the giant slalom, was also honoured.

Retiring journalists Agim Kasapolli, Xhavit Kajtazi and Azem Brovina were also recognised at a ceremony attended by Kosovo State President Vjosa Osmani.

"You are representing our country in the best way possible, by raising our flag," Osmani told athletes.

She also announced additional Government support for the Olympic team before Paris 2024.
