A total of 38 brands including Adidas and Nike have been included on a list of approved wooden bats published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) for international competition.

The list states that only one-piece wooden bats can be used in the WBSC Premier12 and the Under-23 and Under-18 World Cups.

Every event that is sanctioned by the WBSC and those that apply the WBSC regulations also have to adhere to the list of approved bats.

One-piece wood bats are not mandatory but can also be used in the Under-12, Under-15 and Women's Baseball World Cups as long as the brand is included in the "WBSC Official Approved Wooden Bats List".

Other companies include Asics, Birdman Bats, Dinger Bats, Louisville Slugger, Mizuno, Rawlings, Under Armour, and Zett.

According to the WBSC regulations, no wooden bat can be used in any Baseball World Cups or other sanctioned events without the organisation's prior approval.

This approval can be revoked at any time if the manufacturer modifies the bat afterwards.

The bats, which have to be one piece of solid wood from handle to top, can only be made of aodamo, hickory, red oak, yellow birch, sugar and hard maple, white ash, yachidamo, and European beach.

Manufacturers are able to apply to have their bats approved for a four-year term of use.

A non-refundable payment of $8,000 (£6,500/€7,400) is required by the WBSC for administration, application, and laboratory testing fees for all the four years.
