First elected in 1980, Schreiber had served continuously ever since and was most recently re-elected at the ISSF General Assembly in July.

Together with ISSF President Vázquez Raña, he was part of a leadership team that transformed the ISSF into the international governing body of a world sport with 160 member federations as well as turning the sport into one of the strongest in the Olympics.

His service was always distinguished by complete, unselfish dedication to the best interests of the shooting sport and its athletes and national federations.

Schreiber trained as a lawyer at the University of Munich and Harvard University in the USA and practised law in Munich since 1959.

His personal activities included leadership roles in the GAISF and in sports clubs for tennis, shooting and golf.

Schreiber was honoured with many awards, including the Blue Cross of the ISSF, the Olympic Order in Silver from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He also received the highest honour granted by the ISSF - the President's Button.

Vázquez Raña and members of the ISSF Executive Committee and Administrative Council have expressed their deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Mr Schreiber's wife Heidi, his sons Wolfgang and Franz, his sister Wilma, and all members of his family.

Schreiber passed away on Saturday (December 11).
