World Lacrosse has announced that it has a presenting sponsor for this year’s World Lacrosse Men's Championship as it continues its push for inclusion at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The worldwide governing body has revealed that Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego will sponsor the event, scheduled to be held in the Californian city from June 21 to July 1.

Lacrosse is one of nine sports on the shortlist to be on the programme for Los Angeles 2028 as it seeks to appear at the Games for the first time since London 1908.

"This partnership represents a huge boost for our upcoming men’s World Championship, which will be a great celebration of lacrosse in what is now a hotbed for the sport," said World Lacrosse chief executive Jim Scherr.

"Thanks to the incredible support from Rady Children’s Hospital and the strong local Organising Committee, our rapidly increasing popularity and global expansion will be on display as we enter the final stage of our bid for inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games."

Rady Children’s is the largest children’s hospital on the west coast of the United States and ranked among the nation’s best in 10 pediatric specialists.

"Given our platform with this event to positively impact the lives of San Diegans, I could think of no better partner than Rady Children’s Hospital," said Joe Tsai, chair of San Diego 2023 Organising Committee.

"Rady Children’s is a global leader in pediatric care and has placed significant emphasis on the physical, mental and emotional well-being of children here in our great city, across the US and beyond."

Steve Jennings, Rady Children’s senior vice-president and chief external affairs officer added: "At our core, we’re dedicated to bettering the lives of children and their families.

"The national and global footprint of the 2023 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship, coupled with the incredible inspiration this event will have for the children we care for, made this an attractive partnership.

"We’re honoured to present the World Championship here in our hometown of San Diego."
