More than 20,000 volunteers have been recruited for the Chengdu 2021 International University Sports Federation World University Games.

General and professional volunteers have been recruited in areas including language services, competition and awards ceremonies.

During the recruitment process volunteers came from 34 universities, with more than a million volunteers set to come through a scheme called The Partner Project, which is designed to recruit volunteers to promote both the city of Chengdu and the Games themselves.

Volunteers are currently taking part in online training, covering areas including foreign affairs communication and international etiquette.

The Games have been postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions in China, and are now set to take place from July 28 to August 8.
