The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sri Lanka's Gender Equity Committee has held a workplace harassment seminar at its headquarters in Colombo.

Safe sport in Sri Lanka was introduced by the NOC in 2018.

The Gender Equity Committee was formerly known as the Women's Committee, and aims to raise awareness of sexual harassment and explain the rights of athletes.

It is chaired by NOC vice-president Niloo Jayatilaka, who outlined the purpose of the seminar.

"The NOC of Sri Lanka and its Executive Committee are brand ambassadors of sports and we have to walk the talk in what we preach to the sports community," Jayatilaka said.

"As the apex body of sports in this country representing the Olympic Movement, we have to be mindful of this process in our workplace."

NOC President Suresh Subramaniam emphasised the importance of the work of the Gender Equity Committee.

"The purpose of this Committee is not to find fault or to police anybody," he said.

"The purpose is to bring awareness.

"We must learn to respect each other and to move forward."

Lawyers Nadisha Wickremanayake and Dinesha Perera presented rules on conduct and behaviour at the workplace during the one-day seminar.

Sri Lanka's NOC earned International Olympic Committee recognition in 1937, and has competed at every Summer Olympics since London 1948 apart from Montreal 1976.
