The finale of the women’s team tennis competition is set to take place in Spain for the first time since 2008 from November 7 to 12.

This year’s event will mark the 60^th anniversary of the tournament, which was first played in London in 1963.

Last year’s winners Switzerland last year’s runners-up Australia feature in the field, alongside the nine nations that won in qualifying matches last month - Canada, Czechia, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Spain and the United States.

Poland complete the field having been awarded a wildcard into the finals.

Teams are due to compete in four round-robin groups of three, with the four group winners progressing to the semi-finals.

The draw for this year’s finals is due to take place on May 24.

Under the hosting agreement, Seville will be the tournament’s location for at least the next two years, with the option to extend into a third year.

The venue for competition has yet to be confirmed.

The agreement also covers the hosting of the Billie Jean King Cup Juniors and Davis Cup Junior Finals, which are due to be held in Cordoba.

It means the region of Andalucia will host all major International Tennis Federation team events in 2023, with Malaga scheduled to host the knockout stages of the men’s Davis Cup Finals from November 21 to 26.

Speaking about the deal, International Tennis Federation President David Haggerty said: "Following a competitive bidding process and some impressive proposals from a number of potential hosts, we are delighted to announce Seville as the host of this year’s Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals.

"We are very confident the city will stage a fantastic event and do justice to what is the culmination of a year’s worth of exhilarating competition in the women’s World Cup of Tennis.

"I am sure Seville will provide the perfect setting for the electric atmosphere of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, and I am looking forward to seeing supporters from around the world joining us for this unique occasion.

"Throughout the various stages of the event this year we have seen how much it means to players to represent their countries, and I have no doubt that passion will be on show again in Seville."

Last month’s qualifiers produced plenty of drama, with Slovenia reaching the Billie Jean King Cup Finals for the first time after coming from 2-0 down to overcome Romania 3-2, and Canada also beating Belgium 3-2.
