More than 75 community instructors attended a workshop organised in Kampala City by the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC).

The event at the Win 5 Hotel and Spa, organised by the UOC’s Sports for Social Development Commission, was part of a mission to promote physical fitness and also to combat non-communicable diseases.

It was opened by Ugandan International Olympic Committee (IOC) member William Blick and closed by the UOC President Donald Rukare.

Working to the theme of Active Communities, it aimed to equip community physical trainers with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote physical activity in their respective areas.

The chair, Simon Peter Komakech, emphasised the need to have as many community physical trainers as possible to promote physical fitness, combat non-communicable diseases and reduce stress.

At the end of the event, the UOC officially launched the Active Community Initiative, and the participants received certificates of participation and toolkits.

The skills and knowledge acquired by the community physical trainers are expected go a long way in promoting active communities and reducing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases.
