St Lucia has named Helena Renee-Emmanuel as Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Renee-Emmanuel has represented the country in athletics and netball and was confirmed in the role by Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) President Alfred Emmanuel.

She was named as both athlete of the year and netballer of the year during her sporting career.

"I am proud and humbled to take on the role, and I promised the President, it's going to be the most memorable and successful Olympic Games St Lucia has participated in," said Renee-Emmanuel.

"I am also proud and humbled to support our exceptional athletes and to make sure that they perform to the best of their ability at the Games."

St Lucia has never won an Olympic medal after debuting at the Games in Atlanta in 1996.

High jumper Levern Spencer won gold at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019 Pan American Games, and is the only athlete from the island to top a podium at either event.

There are big hopes for 21-year-old sprinter Julien Alfred after her Commonwealth bronze in the 100 metres at Birmingham 2022.

"The SLOC wasted no time in selecting our head of delegation to the Games, that person will be the SLOC Chef de Mission in Paris," said Alfred Emmanuel.

"That individual will be responsible for each and everything, the most powerful Saint Lucian that will be on the ground in Paris looking after the affairs of Team Saint Lucia.

"My role would be to ensure that the right environment is set and provided for everybody so the athletes can do their very best at the Olympics and secondly, the health and safety is a priority for me and the entire team."
