Denmark_in_actionJanuary 23 - A Viking invasion is under way as Denmark looks to learn lessons from this month's 22nd Men's Handball World Championship in Sweden.

Denmark has sent a team of representatives from six cities to Malmö to identify ideas and strategies which can be utilised by the country to bid for other major sporting events.

Lars Lundov, chief executive officer of Sport Event Denmark, said: "The men's dandball European Championship 2014 is a vital event for Denmark to host, especially because handball is an Olympic sport and the Danish team stands a good chance of taking medals.

"A study trip to the greatest handball event of them all gives us the opportunity to pick up invaluable experience and good ideas to build on, not only in terms of staging handball events but also other sports events."

The cities of Aarhus, Herning, Copenhagen, Ballerup, Odense and Aalborg are all participating in the study trip.

Already this year Herning, Aarhus and Aalborg are hosting the UEFA European Under-21 Championship and Copenhagen will feature the UCI Road World Championships.

Meanwhile, Ballerup has great experience of hosting sports, such as major UCI track events, and Odense is staging this year's Denmark Open Premier Super Series badminton tournament.
