Katherine_ReutterApril 14 - Speedskaters dominated the United States Olympic Committee's (UOSC) Athletes and Team of the Month awards for March, with Katherine Reutter and Shani Davis the most prominent winners.

Reutter became the first American woman to win a World Championship distance title in 25 years in March when she won the International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Championship in Sheffield with a time of 2min 33.978sec.

The result also meant Reutter climbed to the top of the women's World Championship standings, whilst Simon Cho is the leader among the men, which means for the first time in 35 years Americans are top of both the men's and women's rankings.

It was also a great month for Davis, who claimed his fourth consecutive World Cup 1500 metres overall crown at the ISU final in Heerenveen.

Davis is the first man to win four World Cup 1500m titles, and he has also claimed a quadruple of 1000m crowns during his career, therefore overtaking Dan Jansen's record.

He is also within one World Cup win overall of beating Jansen's record for individual wins.

Also in March, Team USA's team pursuit squad, made up of Davis, Trevor Marsicano and Jonathan Kuck calimed their first World Championship gold in a time of 3:41.72

Second and third place respectively in the women's category went to cyclist Sarah Hammer, who became the first American woman to claim three medals in a single World Championship, and swimmer Allison Schmitt, who took two individual titles as well as being a member of two title winning relay teams at the NCAA Championships.

Among the men, Cho finished second in the voting as he became the youngest US skater to claim a World Championship title as well as climbing to the top of the men's rankings.

Nathan Adrian came third after helping the University of California's men's swimming team claim its first NCAA swimming championship in 31 years.

The US women's gymnastics team came second after winning the team title and the all-around in both senior and junior levels at the City of Jesolo Trophy.

Third place in the team category went to another women's team, the US squad who took bronze for the second time in a row at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
