Patience_BithellJuly 15 - Britain's sailors claimed five medals at the Helsinki regatta to round off a successful European Championships.

Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell took silver in the 470 men's event, finishing just a point behind Croatian pair Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic, with Nic Asher and Elliot Willis finishing way off the pace.

Meanwhile Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark took a bronze in the women's version of the same event, finishing behind Spanish series winners Tara Pacheco and Berta Betanzos and Danish silver medallists Henriette Koch and Lene Sommer.

They also came behind the Brazilian pair of Fernanda Oliviera and Ana Luisa Barbachan, who are ineligible in the European rankings.

Giles Scott took gold in the Finn, with Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign also taking first place in the 49er class.

Andrew Mills also clinched a bronze medal in the Finn, as Australian World Champions Matthew Belcher and Malcolm Page sailed to the overall regatta victory.

"We've had a very good week," said 24-year-old Bithell.

"After the disappointment of Sail for Gold, we came here to try and win the event so it feels really good to have come so close.

"We got caught out a couple of times, but we've had some good results across the series and saw the Europeans as another chance to put our case forwards, and I think we've done that well."

"We missed out on the title by just one point, one place over the week," added the 24-year-old Scotsman Patience.

"You can always look back at the event and think of where you might have just picked up that one extra place, but that's what it's like at the top of sport. The margins are so small."
