sailing_worlds_30-09-11September 30 - Rock group INXS will be launching the 2011 Perth Worlds Festival at a show in Fremantle on December 3, to coincide with the start of the Sailing World Championships in the city.

More than 1,200 Olympic class sailors will be in action from 80 nations at the Championships, competing for 10 medals as they look to book their places at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

INXS will be playing the ticketed concert at the Worlds Village on Esplanade Park, with the festival lasting for 16 days and based on the "where land meets the sea" theme, showcasing Western Australia's culture and lifestyle.

It will also celebrate the state's affinity with sailing, running as it is at the same time as the largest international sailing event of the year.

The concert is the only part of the festival which is ticketed, with 250 other free activities on offer.

Perth 2011 event director John Longley: "The programme being planned for the Worlds Festival by North Street Productions is genuinely exciting and to have INXS kick things off on the first Saturday is tremendous.

"There will be something for everyone and for the 16 days of the World Championships the atmosphere in Fremantle is set to be truly special."
