altOCTOBER 1 - A LATE winner was ruled out for England's women hockey players as they drew 1-1 with India at the World Cup in Madrid today.

Kerry Williams (pictured) thought she had scored a deciding goal but it was disallowed. It leaves their hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the tournament hanging in the balance as they have face hosts Spain and Olympic champions Germany.

Williams had set up Chloe Rogers for the opener in the 47th minute, before Surinder Kaur equalised for India 11 minutes later from the penalty spot.

"If you look at the umpire's reaction and Kerry's reaction they both instinctively felt it was a goal," said Danny Kerry, the England coach.

"The brave decision would have been to go with instinct. It is easier not to give it."
