JAYNE PEARCE (pictured), former media chief of UK Athletics, has been appointed as head of press operations for London 2012, insidethegames can reveal.

 

Pearce is founder and co-director of Pearce International, a company that specialises in media operations for sporting events.

 

In over 20 years in the business, she has worked on five Olympic Games, five Football World Cups (men’s and women’s) and countless track and field events.

 

She has been media director of two International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in athletics and one IAAF World Indoor Championships.

 

She has worked as a media consultant to the International Olympic Committee, a media officer for FIFA and press director of the IAAF.

 

A spokeswoman for London 2012 confirmed the appointment to insidethegames.

 

She said: "Jayne’s job will involve managing the needs of the accredited print media, news agencies and photographers who attend London 2012 .

 

"This includes managing their needs across all the competition venues. 

 

"We have hired Jayne because of her extensive press operations experience, including working at the Atlanta, Sydney, Turin, Salt Lake City and Barcelona Games."

 

Pearce said: "This is a dream come true for me.

 

"It is the culmination of a career and a challenge I relish.

 

"To be responsible for providing the press operations service for the media in London in 2012 is an incredible prospect but one that I am ready for."
