Karen Webb_31-01-12May 13 - Vero Communications, the company founded by Mike Lee, who was so instrumental in London winning its bid to host the 2012 Olympics, has made another senior appointment, it announced today.

Karen Webb (pictured), who has over 12 years brand, marketing and communications experience with the Olympic Movement, has been appointed as a director of Vero.

She has joined from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) where she was vice-president of image and marketing communications, helping to develop the brand strategy that has made the Olympic rings among the most recognisable logos in the world.

Webb was also instrumental in devising the Olympic Games’ Image and Identity strategy and led the development of the IOC’s marketing programmes through its key partners including TOP sponsors and organising committees.

Webb, an Australian who began her career in journalism, was also a senior manager of marketing and media communications at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Lee said: “This is a significant appointment for Vero.

"Karen has a near-unparalleled understanding of how brands and sponsors can bring an Olympic association alive – she’s been there and done it and there are very few people in the marketplace with Karen’s experience.

I know she will bring a new dimension to Vero's campaigning approach to communications.

"We are thrilled to have her on board.”

Webb added: “Vero has strong positioning, an excellent reputation, and an impressive track record.

"This is a great opportunity - I couldn’t think of a more appropriate fit at an exciting time to join the dynamic brand and team that is vero.”

Webb's appointment comes at an important time for Vero with revenues for the 2007/08 financial year – Vero's second – exceeding £1.5 million.

Its clients include the England & Wales Cricket Board, G4 Security, IAAF, International Rugby Board, Liverpool FC, Premier Rugby Ltd, Siemens, Sport England, UEFA, UK Athletics, UK Sport, Virgin Atlantic, VisitBritain and West Ham United Football Club.

It is also playing a leading role in Doha's bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

The agency’s rapid growth since it was founded by Lee in the wake of his successful role as head of communications for the 2012 bid has also prompted it to relocate to spacious new offices in London’s Covent Garden.
