April 12 - The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) has launched a search for an anthem on Facebook to bring Kiwis together for London 2012 and is asking New Zealanders to take part.

The NZOC also plans to consult its athletes about what piece of music they should choose to become their signature tune for the London Olympics, where they are expected to send a team of around 200 athletes.

"There are just over two years until the London Olympic Games," said NZOC commercial director Terry Daly.

"At home more than four million fans will be cheering for our Olympians and in London the ex-pat Kiwis will be out in force.

"We’re on the road to London and it’s time to find an anthem that brings the nation together."

Double gold medallist, Danyon Loader, has sugged Split Enz ‘Give it a Whirl’ and ‘Now This is It’ from Tiki Taane as two options.

"There has been a lot of interest in the Rugby World Cup anthem and it has highlighted the power of music to engage New Zealanders," said Daly.

The NZOC will listen to the views of New Zealanders before making a short list and a final selection later this year.
