June 30 - Pyeongchang's campaign to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics has received a boost with the news that the National Assembly of Korea, the country's Parliament, has again confirmed its full support for the bid by passing a new act which makes it a national priority.

The National Assembly approved Pyeongchang’s bid by officially declaring the "Resolution of Support for Hosting the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games".

The supports the construction of new state-of-the-art sports venues and major improvements to the regional transport infrastructure.

These improvements include constructing express rail links and upgrading access roads between Olympic venues to ensure safe and fast travel for the Olympic Family and winter sports fans during Games time.

The "Resolution of Support" also confirms that the National Assembly will ratify a specific "2018 Pyeongchang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Support Law" if Pyeongchang is selected as Host City for the Winter Games.

The Special Committee for International Sport Event Bid of National Assembly will now inspect Pyeongchang's existing and proposed Olympic venues, and will review the plans for improving transport infrastructure.

Pyeongchang 2018 chairman and chief executive Yang-Ho Cho said: "We are delighted that the National Assembly of Korea has declared its support for our bid and has made our campaign to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games a national priority.

"Hosting an Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is a major investment for a country so we are very pleased that there is absolute commitment for our bid at all levels of Government and they have pledged to honour all required IOC (International Olympic Committee) financial guarantees, including the funding of infrastructure development costs."
